What is a life care community?
Life care senior living combines an independent lifestyle in a spacious apartment or town home with a wide range of service and amenities that eliminate home maintenance and yard work while also providing the peace of mind that comes with availability of onsite long-term health care.

Do I own my apartment or town home?
You do not take title to the living unit that you occupy but enter into a contract which provides for your occupancy of an apartment as long as you are capable to live independently. You also have access to all community amenities and unlimited health care services in the onsite health care facility.

What amenities are typically included at a community?
A residency agreement often includes these services as part of the complete package for life at our retirement community: weekly housekeeping, flat laundry service, daily meal in the restaurant, fitness programs, transportation, full activity calendar, security, utilities, parking for residents and their guests, emergency call monitoring and unlimited access to onsite health care services. Many properties also have swimming pools, spas, wellness programs, libraries, beauty shops, banking services, gift shops, convenience stores and other programs important to local residents..

Can I bring my own furniture and favorite things when I move in?
Absolutely. The apartment or town home that you occupy is your home and can be furnished and decorated as you choose. Many residents also choose to upgrade countertops, flooring or wall coverings to further customize their living unit as their home. Many communities also have garden spaces and other outdoor amenities for their residents.

What type of contract would I sign to enter a community?
Life Care Retirement Communities offers a variety of contracts. Many provide a return of capital contract which protects your net worth and provides a refund when you leave the community. Others offer a contract that has a lower entrance fee but provides for no refund.

Tell me about the health care options at communities.
Nearly all LCRC communities offer skilled nursing services onsite. Many are connected directly to the apartment building. A typical life care contract will include unlimited services in the health center if the need arises. Many communities also offer assisted living as a part of the contract. If your health care needs include assisted or skilled care, you are able to transition from independent living to health care easily with the assistance of the community staff.
Back to Questions -
Are LCRC communities accredited?
With the exception of our newly opened development communities, all LCRC facilities are accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission/(CARF). This is a standard of service that meets an outside agency's review of standards for continuing care retirement communities. Only a small number of CCRCs have sought and been awarded this level of accreditation.
Back to Questions -
What will I pay to enter a community?
All communities charge an entrance fee and have a monthly service fee. The monthly fees cover the services and amenities provided at the community while you are in residence. The entrance fee may have a refundable portion at the time you leave the community. A portion of your fees may be tax deductible.
